Acer Aspire V5-552-8404 15.6-Inch Discounts

Jim (NY) :
This laptop was to replace a desktop that has been used for general browsing and word processing. I also wanted to add something that would do well with Premiere, Lightroom, and Photoshop. I know I could have spent $1000 in something with an i7 and discrete video card but this has been more than good enough. I knew from mass exports in Lightroom that my work Laptop with an i5 was slower than our other home Laptop with an A8. On the downside I am sure that I WILL be spending another $30 to make the RAM to 8GB.

TCCC143 (MA) :
Probably the thinnest laptop I have ever owned. Feels solid, no give in the when handling it. Still need to get use to Windows 8, but the laptop seems to hold plenty of power to handle games, video and multiple tasks just fine. It is very quiet, I never hear the fan, and it has not once gotten warm while in my lap.
I wish the battery life could be a little better, but for the price you cannot go wrong.

Judith Lindsay (NJ) :
Loving this laptop by Acer! So lightweight! I call Acer laptops 'workhorses' as they have all worked great for me and my family members and are so durable. This is my 4th Acer laptop. Just be aware of two things; it does not have an optical drive for playing cd/dvds (I ordered an external one), thus making it ultra light. I can carry it to class without noticing it. Also Windows 8 does not have Word or Excel programs, but I see I can get it online for a minimum monthly charge through Microsoft. I knew this going in to it but had to search around for this information, so wanted other potential buyers to know it. I am completely happy with this laptop!

M. Morell "Marvin" (Las Vegas, Nevada USA) :
I would give this laptop a Four except that its battery life is quite poor. After adjusting the power settings for minimum power, I have trouble getting more than three hours from it. Acer should have give it a larger battery. Acer doesn't have a larger battery available for after market either.

Mohammed Chaudhry "Choi" (USA) :
The item arrived in top condition... Kudos to the seller... Also was looking for something on a budget... This machine does much more than that... It gives you the specs of a high end laptop in an affordable package... Just the very best for the price... If this machine just had a touch screen then it would be the BEST... But hey already getting a lot for the price... Acer has done a very fine job...

Merril Lyew Emanuel "bücherwürmchen" (California / Deutschland) :
Had to return the unit, because it was not able to boot. No media backup of the OS it was asking for. Tried three times with the same result. After ten minutes, put back in the box and returned it. Perhaps it was damaged by the way it was handled by the carrier. In any case, my first bad expirience in buying online.

CT shore (NY) :
This laptop is thin (0.7") for an ordinary laptop and weighs only 3 lbs., but I would not classify it as an ultrabook or netbook. It performs as well as any computer I've used, presumably because of the Core i7 processor and 128 GB SSD drive - bootup is quite fast, and now that Office programs have been tweaked, startup is fast there as well. The keyboard is comfortable, and overall this is a high quality laptop that justifies the $950 price I paid for it. The downsides are: the trackpad is hard to navigate, even after you try to configure it, and the graphics display is not as good as I need (1366 X 768), especially when it is displayed on a 22" monitor (but you may need to go straight from the Acer's HDMI out to HDMI in on your monitor, which I don't have). It was delivered promptly, and there wasn't too much bloatware to remove, so after installing Office, etc., I was productive with it right away.

Kevin Youel (CA) :
This laptop has worked great for me. My only complaint is that I wish I had a bigger hard-drive. But the Solid State hard-drive is really fast and runs very quiet. I love it!

K J (USA) :
Lightweight, thin, and good battery life. Gets about 6 hours with brightness down and on power saver. Other than that, does everything I need.
UPDATE: Be careful with Acer and SSD's. Mine just failed, with no warning signs. Make sure you have your data backed up at all times. No telling when it will break down. I've read about others having a problem with the SSD from Acer as well. Luckily Amazon took it back for a refund.

David Wintrich (New Berlin, WI USA) :
I have never written a review before, due to the fact i have never felt the need to. This is a great supplemental computer. I not sure I would have it for my only computer for now but i can see it becoming one in the near future after some needed upgrades (Skype for one). If it had Skype it would be the perfect computer for deployed military members. I have been deployed multiply times so when i say that i want you to know where i am coming from. It is quick and exceptional for travel. People complained about the weight but that complaint carries no weight. 4 1/2 stars is what it deserves but that's not a choice. I would recommend to other computer users who like to explore new IT solutions. Acer is the way to go with this....not the other choices.

Tholian Web "RJ" (Newark, CA USA) :
I love this little giant of a Netbook. I have a Kindle Fire HD-7 but found the fonts to small. Being in my late 50's and vision being being a real issue. I found the Chrome book the best value for the buck. If all you need is a good Netbook for bill paying, web browsing and basic use then this will be just fine. Having the ability to use Wifi and ethernet is excellent. The Chrome OS does not need any Virus protection and upgrades itself and you never really know it.It comes with a larger battery than the C710-2487, but has a "baby bump" on the bottom that adds a little more weight. A batt charger also comes with the book. The only two items I would suggest is the Case Logic 10-11.6 sleeve cover and a Mouse (easier to use than the finger pad). Its ready to rock when you open the lid.!! Don't wast your money on laptops that have more bells and whistles that you really don't need.

Ray Gen "raygen" (El Segundo, CA USA) :
The Acer Chromebook exceeded all my expectations. The three usb ports, VGA and HMDI make it VERY versatile and friendly to other devises. Fast, reliable, and steady connection to wi-fi. Decent battery life that doesn't drain away in an hour like others do. It's a peppy, little machine. If you are looking for this type of device, this is a good one.

Tom A. (DE, USA) :
I wont get too specific but I would like to say this, it runs smooth, sound quality is excellent, I can run ALL the Total War Games to max settings, as well as Skyrim which should indicate that this Baby will not only be able to handle the upcoming Rome 2 game but also most other games. By the way yes this is also a good Laptop for COD and Battlefield fans! Gaming laptop on the cheap with a nice size screen for when you travel or are at home. How can you go wrong? One of the best investments I made in the last 3 years! Get em before these gems become better known possibly driving the price up more!

PitheS (California) :
I like everything in this laptop, exept the surface it's too glossy and gets dirty quickly. Also Windows 8 is another con, Installed Se7en. Sound is awesome because of the Dolby Home Theater feature. As for the colors and brightness, well it seems normal, I dunno what other rewievers found there.
For such money - great purchase!

Skela (NY) :
I have no idea how people can give such great reviews for this laptop. I have never wrote a review in my life, but this time I just had to say something. Maybe I was one of those unfortunate people to get a messed up laptop, but this is really bad. Internet disconnects, everything takes so long to load, it cant even open up word. When internet connects its so slow, all my wireless computers and laptops that I bought years ago are ten times better and faster. I will try to give it another chance tomorrow, but I am hoping that I can return it ASAP. I just don't understand such great reviews.

Sheryl (Southern California, USA) :
Bought this laptop at micro centet electronics. Loved it first few days then the WiFi started dropping signal randomly. Tried a bunch of software fixes all without success. Read the threads at Acer product support. These laptops have a major wifi hardware problem.

B. Grant (USA) :
This laptop had a lot of potential, but it fell well short, whenever you put the laptop in airplane mode and shut off the WiFi, after you take it out of airplane mode it will not see any wifi networks or connect on its own, it will only connect after you run the troubleshooting program. The other issue is the FAN, it sounds like a jet fighter in afterburner whenever your running video, the FAN is tooooo loud. If you need an 11.6 maybe look at the Mac 11.6. This laptop does come some nice accessories, "Bluetooth Mouse, extended battery, USB Ethernet adapter, USB video adapter.

J. S. Adams "customer" (Nevada, USA) :
In the future they will have larger SSD drives, faster and less power hungry processors, more RAM memory, batteries that last longer and cost less but they probably won't be any prettier, lighter or smaller. If you just can't wait and want an ultraportable with touch now, this is one to seriously consider.

Nunnehi (Las Vegas) :
I purchased mine directly from Acer because they ran a special on the 6GB ram quad core version for the same price as Amazon has the 4GB quad core for.
I am in real estate and rarely have the ability to plug my laptop in, always on the go. I was a little concerned with all the reviews saying this hardly had any battery life but because of the price and features I was looking I went ahead and took a chance.
I don't sit at my laptop for hours straight but rather use it 10-20-30 minutes at a time. thru the course of the day probably a total of 4-5 hours. on my first day I used the laptop several times and never shut it off. When I got home 16 hours later it still had 35% battery life left. To me that goes way beyond my expectations. I can see that maybe if you want to take it on an 8 hour flight and watch 4 movies back to back that it might die on you but for the average use picking it up thru out the day without ever shutting it off and powering it on, I am quite happy. This gets me thru my 12-16 hour work day without ever having to plug it in. The trick is setting up the right power settings on battery.
I almost purchased a windows tablet. I was looking at the surface and the Iconia w700 but budget came into play for me and im glad I actually have a regular laptop with a full keyboard.
Everyone else might have a bum battery or i might have gotten the one and only gem, either way I am perfectly satisfied.

Breakingben (USA) :
I just received the laptop and set everything up. It's awesome and pretty fast. I love the portable size and the silver color. The touch screen works amazingly. I do like windows 7 better, but windows 8 is pretty easy and useful. This laptop is a great deal. For an 11.6 screen with an AMD A6 processor and 500 GB it's a steal. It is a little slow when downloading programs (I just uploaded Microsoft Office) but I don't mind at all. I'm really just going to use it for music, college, MS Office, and web surfing. Overall: Awesome laptop!

David Cavazos (San Antonio, Texas United States) :
I was looking for a desktop replacement computer that I could move around the house and use in low light environments. This Acer is the perfect compromise between speed/affordability/lit keyboard/touchscreen. It boots up from shutdown in <1 minute and is almost immediately on when starting up from sleep mode. My favorite feature is that similar to a netbook, it connects to the internet even before all the apps load, so once you turn on the computer, you can be online within a few seconds or a minute.
